Brunner received widespread criticism for promoting plans that would disenfranchise thousands of Ohio voters

The Columbus Dispatch: Some national and state voting-rights groups are criticizing Brunner's proposals, arguing that her solutions could disenfranchise thousands of poor, elderly, minority and other voters while creating new security risks. (“Voting changes a costly concept,” Mark Niquette, The Columbus Dispatch, 12/19/07)

The Columbus Dispatch: The American Civil Liberties Union of Ohio filed a lawsuit Thursday to block Cuyahoga County's switch to a paper ballot voting system for the March 4 primary election. The lawsuit, filed in U.S. District Court in Cleveland, argues the county's new system violates the U.S. Constitution and Voting Rights Act of 1965 because it doesn't give voters a chance to fix mistakes on their ballots. (“Brunner backs off proposals for voting,” Mark Niquette, The Columbus Dispatch, 1/18/08)
